About Kevin And His LIfe
Kevin Michael Smith, 57 years old, passed away on Sunday morning, April 7th.
Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife, Karen, and daughters Ashley and Caitlin. His family was the center of his life and the source of his greatest joy. He was born in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Morris and Jean Smith.
He graduated from Assumption High School and St. Ambrose University with an almost perfect grade point average. Kevin moved with his wife to Jacksonville from Davenport, IA in 1983 shortly after their marriage. There he raised his family and worked in a career in the managed health care field. More importantly, he developed a wide circle of diverse friends. Florida and Jacksonville suited him perfectly.
He loved the proximity of the beach and the ocean, the freedom of motorcycle riding, the challenge of golf, the quiet of the nature preserve, freshwater, and deep-sea fishing, and the camaraderie of neighbors.
Kevin was a natural athlete and loved playing and watching sports his entire life. He was an avid Jaguars fan and always loved a good baseball game. The family was so very important to Kevin. He reveled in his large number of siblings and was as close as possible to his recently deceased parents. He loved reunions.
Kevin grew up as one of thirteen brothers and sisters and learned patience, understanding, and self-reliance in the one bathroom household in Davenport, IA. In spite of the difference in geography, he maintained a close and loving relationship with all his brothers and sisters spread all over the country until the end. Kevin was a husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend.
He leaves this world to join his Holy Father in heaven, leaving a giant hole in the hearts of the people he touched on this earth. He will be greatly missed.
