About Marketing Profs Smart Marketers Tour 2012
The evening started out with a networking and mingling session. MarketingProfs.com went above and beyond with accommodating each guest in attendance with passed hors d’oeuvres and free drink tickets. Their Miami stop was at the Cafeina Wynwood Lounge, which was tucked away in the Downtown Arts District and absolutely gorgeous.
After a few hours of networking the panel discussion started. Up first was Summer Boone (@summerjoy), Social Media Director at Church of the Glades in Coral Gables. Especially interested in hearing how she balances social media with religion and keeping everything within the church’s standards, Summer made very clear that their number one goal on the social networking sites and at the church, in general, is to build relationships and community.
Janet Altman, Principal and Marketing Director at Kaufman, Rossin & Co. were up next to be interviewed by MarketingProfs moderator Matt Grant. Her expertise in marketing was much more “corporate” since she has worked in the legal and accounting field and now works for one of the top CPA firms in the country. Janet had a host of knowledge regarding the do’s and don’ts of marketing and the backlash many companies can receive for stepping out of their legal boundaries.
The main takeaways from the evening were:
– Know Your Audience!
– Equip social media followers with something they can pass along to others. The sharing of your content will be key in getting a bigger return on your investment
– Be Relate-able! Make sure there is a mixture of your news but other things that your customer base will also like to be updated on in your industry
